“City Girls” and “The Big Payoff” were written in a house in the middle of the woods outside of Copenhagen where a friend of mine used to live. It was towards the end of the recordings of “Zen Sucker” and we needed a couple of songs for the ending of the album. It was January and we were almost shut in by snow. I sat in a cold guest room with two electrical heaters turned all the way up. In two days I wrote four songs with the instruments I could find in the household: An acoustic guitar, a set of
bongos and an accordion.
